Lessons at the studio are not cut-and-paste regimens of doing the same activities and exercises week after week. Unlike other teachers, Nick teaches his students to grow as musicians instead of simply trudging through method books a page at a time. Many if not most students on the roster have joined after being unhappy with the progress they were making elsewhere, soon finding that their efforts under Nick's guidance are rewarded with results leading toward their goals. (Don't be shy about asking for references.)
All ages and experience levels are welcome to come learn. The roster of students regularly has children as young as five as well as adults well into their senior years, both beginners and advanced in skill. No one is too old to begin from scratch or too experienced to learn from a different perspective, many active performers have come through the studio to fine-tune their technique.
Most students are not happy with just learning a few chords and scales, nor do they want to only focus on playing the guitar. Below are some key areas of instruction offered at Top Tier Guitar Studio:
Guitar Lessons
Guitar instruction starts with learning the fundamentals of proper techniques and learning the notes, eventually progressing towards finger-picking and classical training. There is plenty of learning "out of the book" as we break down and figure out songs that you are interested in playing; Just bring in a recording of anything (including music without any guitar at all), and it will be written down in a way that you can understand and learn.Music Theory
Toss out the tabs and learn to read the language of music. We begin with reading notes and rhythms all the way through advanced theory instruction including harmonic analysis of music and intensive ear training. Instruction is also available in preparation for college music theory courses for current undergrads or high-schoolers who wish to major in music.Music Composition
If you have ever wanted to get some creativity out of your system or just had a tune in your head that you didn't know what to do with, you can learn how to write your music as well as how chords and scales can work together to create songs. We learn how to go about notating your works as well as discovering ways to come up with new ideas and developing them into music for you and others to enjoy.
The goal of the instruction from Top Tier Guitar Studio is to help create a versatile, capable, and knowledgeable musician out of a student.
